Who is Michael Ovitz?

Great question! (Also, the title of his memoir.)

He’s one of the cofounders of CAA, the most powerful agency in Hollywood and responsible for countless films and TV shows you know and love. But so what?

So what is not really the WHAT but the HOW. How did he do it?

1st, he put the creative first. CAA = Creative Artists Agency.

2nd, he put his clients’ long term interests first.

3rd, he demonstrated that no one has a monopoly on good ideas. The Coca-Cola polar bears from the ’90s (that are still being used!) came from his move into advertising. Bummer McCann.

If you enjoy reading, learning from the success of others and modeling their approach in the work that you do, grab a copy. At the very least you’ll get the inside story from one of the greatest dealmakers in Hollywood who now works with the tech VC firm Andreessen Horowitz.
