Searching for your first job or a new job isn’t easy. If you are currently looking for a job, it’s likely taking longer than you’d hoped. It’s practically a full time job to find a job, especially since you’re competing with everyone else in the market looking to make a move, or recent grads entering the market from schools around the country.
Online job boards and LinkedIn have made it easier to apply to so much in so little time, with the result being hundreds or thousands of resumes being submitted for the same job. Most employers now use automated systems to cull the applicants down, and the first person to receive and review your submission (and hopefully your portfolio) is likely not a fellow creative. This adds another challenge for designers with a process that’s become opaque, impersonal, and harder to get your work seen by the people most qualified to review your experience and skills.
With all those challenges it’s become more important to re-imagine your career and job search as a marathon and not a sprint.
